Dr Yaseen Joolay

Dr Yaseen Joolay is a neonatologist and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Cape Town, based at Groote Schuur Hospital. He has over 20 years of clinical experience in neonatal and paediatric care, including the care of premature and critically ill newborn infants. His clinical and academic interests include neonatal intensive care, respiratory support in preterm infants, quality improvement, and clinical care in resource-constrained settings. He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, registrar training, clinical governance and neonatal research. He has contributed to neonatal training and examination nationally, and to the development of practical neonatal clinical protocols used across South African public-sector clinical environments. He is also the editor and contributing author to The Newborn Baby, a neonatal textbook used in South African clinical training. His interests include improving safe, context-appropriate neonatal care through education, systems development and collaborative clinical practice.

Dr Roopesh Bhoola

Dr Roopesh Nagin Bhoola is a highly experienced Neonatologist and Paediatrician with over 25 years of service in child health and newborn medicine. He graduated with an MBChB from the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) and later completed his Fellowship in Paediatrics and a Certificate in Neonatology. He currently serves as Head of the Neonatology Clinical Unit at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital and holds an honorary academic appointment with the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Bhoola is actively involved in neonatal guideline development, clinical teaching, research, and specialist training. His research contributions span neonatal care, HIV, and newborn health, and he serves on several provincial and national committees dedicated to improving neonatal outcomes in South Africa

Dr Omolemo Kitchin

Dr Omolemo P. Kitchin is a Paediatric Pulmonologist, Allergist, and Paediatrician with over 20 years of experience in child health, respiratory medicine, and allergy care. He obtained his MBChB from the University of Natal and holds specialist qualifications in Paediatrics, Allergology, and Paediatric Pulmonology, as well as an MMed (Paediatrics). He has served in senior clinical and academic roles, including Head of Paediatrics at Tambo Memorial Hospital and Senior Specialist and Lecturer at the University of Pretoria. Since 2011, he has been in private practice at Waterfall City Hospital, Midrand. Dr Kitchin is a respected researcher, published author, examiner, and conference speaker with special interests in asthma, allergy, chronic lung disease, sleep disorders, and immune deficiencies.

Prof Gary Reubenson

Prof Gary Reubenson is a Paediatric Infectious Diseases subspecialist based at Rahima Moosa Mother & Child Hospital, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where he heads one of the General Paediatric units. He has held representative positions with the Federation of Infectious Disease Societies of Southern Africa (FIDSSA), the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA), the South African Paediatric Association (SAPA), the Ministerial Advisory Committee for Antimicrobial Resistance, and the National Essential Medicines List Committee (NEMLC).He is passionate about practicing and teaching evidence-based medicine within the fields of Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases.

Dr Andrew Van Eck

Dr Andrew Van Eck obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Cape Town and specialist training in Pediatrics at Stellenbosch University. Additionally, he completed a two-year neonatal fellowship in Belgium. He holds a subspecialist qualification in Neonatology (Cert Neonatology SA) via the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, alongside FC Paed (SA) and MMed (Paed) from Stellenbosch. Dr. Van Eck is currently practicing at Life St George's Hospital, Netcare Greenacres and Gerbers and Partners in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), with additional consulting availability in Jeffreys Bay. He has practiced extensively in both the private and public sectors in South Africa.
